# Claim your name

> Sign in first, then choose the address for your first Launchfolio site. Learn the name rules, what happens next, and when payment is needed.

The name you choose becomes your address: `launchfolio.live/your-name`.

## Sign in, then choose

1. **Press **Get started** or **Claim it**** — Both take you to sign-in. A name typed on the home page comes with you.
2. **Press **Continue with Google**** — Choose your Google account. If you are new, Launchfolio creates an account for you.
3. **Press **Claim this name**** — If you have no site yet, choose an available name after signing in. Your dashboard opens with the new site.

> **Good to know:** Already have sites? Signing in opens your dashboard and all of them, whether published or paid for yet.

1. Type a name. We check it as you type and suggest alternatives if it is taken.
2. Claim an available name to create your first site.

## Name rules

| Rule | What it means |
| --- | --- |
| 3–30 characters | Lowercase letters, numbers and dashes. |
| No dash at either end | A dash in the middle is fine. |
| Available and not reserved | Existing sites and names such as `admin` or `login` cannot be claimed. |

Capital letters become lowercase and spaces become dashes as you type. **Maya Haddad** becomes `maya-haddad`.

## Build, then publish

You can build before paying. Pay $30 for the first year when you are ready to publish. See [Pay to publish](https://www.launchfolio.live/docs/en/pay-and-review).

| When | Your name |
| --- | --- |
| First 72 hours after claiming | Held for you. |
| After that, before payment | Yours until someone else claims it. Your work stays safe if you need another name. |
| After payment | Yours while your plan is active. |

## If your unpaid name is taken

1. **Sign in as usual** — Checkout asks you to pick a new address.
2. **Choose another name** — Your site and its work move to that address.

## Start from a template

1. **Open the [template gallery](https://www.launchfolio.live/templates)** — Preview a template and press **Start with this**.
2. **Sign in and claim a name** — Your new site starts with that template.
