# Use a template on your site

> Give your Launchfolio site a template’s layout and colours while keeping your own words, photos and sections. Pick one from the editor or the Designer.

A template changes how your page is laid out. Your words, photos and sections stay exactly as they are.

## Where to find it

| Where | Press | Good for |
| --- | --- | --- |
| The editor | **Pick a template**, under **Design your page** (on a phone, in the row of tabs) | A new look without designing anything |
| The Designer | **Templates** in the top bar (the swatch book, next to the clock) | Starting from a template, then changing it yourself |

Both open **Pick a template**. Each card shows the template with your own name, photo and sections, so you see the real result before you choose.

## What changes and what stays

| | What happens |
| --- | --- |
| Your words, photos and sections | Nothing changes. They come from the editor, as always. |
| The page layout | Replaced by the template’s rows, sections and styles. |
| Colours and fonts | The template’s, unless you turn on **Keep my colours and fonts**. |
| The template’s own sections | Filled with your sections of the same kind: a photo gallery gets your gallery, a section of cards gets your cards. |
| Your sections the template has no place for | Added at the end of the page, before the contact form, so nothing disappears. |
| A background that used the template’s photo | Uses your photo instead. |

> **Good to know:** Colours and fonts belong to your whole site, so they also change the simple layout.

## Apply a template

1. **Open **Pick a template**** — From the editor or the Designer.
2. **Choose whether to keep your colours** — Turn on **Keep my colours and fonts** to keep your own. The previews change as you switch it.
3. **Press **Use this design** on a card** — A large preview shows your whole page in that design. Scroll it to see all of it. The template’s name, what’s missing and **Apply this design** sit beside it.
4. **Press **Apply this design**** — Or **Back to templates** to pick another.

**Practice copy** (`launchfolio.live/your-name/edit`): A practice copy with a made-up site and three sample templates. The sample site has no photo, so **Classic** shows what happens when something is missing.
1. Off, the previews use each template’s colours and fonts. On, they keep yours. Try it and watch the cards change.
2. Every card shows the template with your own name and sections. Press **Use this design** to look at one closely.
3. The whole page in that design, and anything it shows that your site doesn’t have yet. **Apply this design** uses it; your words and photos stay as they are.

## When something is missing

Some templates show things your site doesn’t have yet, like a photo gallery or an **About you** text. Then you see **This design shows things your site doesn’t have yet**, with each one named.

- Missing pieces stay hidden on your page until you add them. You can apply the template now and fill them in later.
- In the editor, **Add it** takes you to the right place to fill one in, and **Open the Designer** lets you adjust the design instead.
- For a section your site doesn’t have at all, add one with **Add section** in the list on the side.

## After you apply it

| Where you applied it | What happens next |
| --- | --- |
| The editor | It’s saved as your draft design and you see **Your site has a new design**. Press **Publish now** to put it on your site, **Open the Designer** to adjust it first, or **Done** to leave it for later. |
| The Designer | You see **Design applied**. Change anything you like, then press **Save** and **Publish this design**, as with any design. |

> **Changed your mind?:** Your live site doesn’t change until you publish. In the Designer, **Undo** brings back your old layout, but not your old colours, so turn on **Keep my colours and fonts** if you’re not sure. After publishing, you can still go back: open **Version history** and put an earlier version live. It brings back that version’s content, design and layout together.

> **Good to know:** Until your site is paid for and approved, you can apply a template and save it, but not publish it. See [Pay to publish](https://www.launchfolio.live/docs/en/pay-and-review).

## Questions

**Will a template delete any of my content?**
No. A template only changes the layout, and the colours if you let it. Everything you wrote and uploaded stays.

**Which templates can I pick?**
The ones in the template gallery that have their own page layout.

**Can I try several?**
Yes. Apply as many as you like. Each one you publish is kept in your version history, so you can go back to it.

- [Publish your site](https://www.launchfolio.live/docs/en/publish-your-site): Put your new design on your live site.
